Proportions & Planning
The Rule of the Room
At Accent Builders, we believe that a truly beautiful home is composed, not just assembled. Most of today’s interiors feel unfinished because they have lost their sense of scale. We utilize the guidelines of Classical Proportions to ensure that every baseboard, casing, and cabinet assembly is in mathematical harmony with the volume of your space.
The Approach: From Theory to Mastery
A Timeless Logic
Some may feel that "classical" means "outdated," but proportion is not a trend. It is the math of the natural world. Whether your aesthetic is traditional or more contemporary, these principles govern how light hits a surface and how a room feels to the human eye. We do not follow these rules to stay in the past, we follow them to ensure your home feels balanced and intentional today.
Heritage Design Standards
Our work is guided by the standards found in classical architectural theory and reflected in publications on architecture, historic buildings, as well as historic millwork catalogs. Following these principles, we can establish such details as the height of the entablature, details of the fireplace surround or the profile of a wood-paneled wall. We use these traditional standards to bring a sense of permanence to every project.
Precision at Every Scale
Whether we are building a custom dining table or executing a full-scale interior remodel, our standard of craftsmanship remains the same. The precision required to create an intricate joint is the same precision we bring to your home's structural changes.
Our Practice
We begin by diagnosing the architectural needs of your space. Using on-site measurements and scale analysis, we provide a roadmap for trim, cabinetry, and structural layouts that restore balance to your home’s interior.
Architectural Millwork & Cabinetry
We create custom furniture and millwork assemblies. From intricate fireplace surrounds to built-in libraries, we ensure every joint is executed with furniture-grade precision.
For projects requiring structural changes or complete room transformations, we act as the master builder. We manage the transition from architectural theory to a finished, permanent home, ensuring the original vision is never lost in the construction process.
Getting Started
The Initial Consultation Our process begins with an on-site architectural analysis. During this 90-minute session, we evaluate your home’s vertical hierarchy, analyze existing trim profiles, and provide a roadmap for restoration.
